Usain Bolt breaks the 200m world record in Berlin running in 19.19 seconds

20th August 2009, IAAF World Championships in Berlin
Usain “lightning” Bolt has broken the 200 m world record in Berlin with a phenomenal time of 19.19 seconds slashing 0.11sec off the time he set in Beijing last year. A few days before Bolt broke his own world record by exactly the same margin. In both races his only competitor was the clock as he cruised to victory in the 200m final. “I’m on my way to being a legend,” Bolt said. No doubt about it.
It was a fast race, with four sprinters breaking 19.90seconds. However, when watching the race Bolt is so fast that he makes the rest of the runners look like they were running in slow motion. Bolt had a big lead after the curve and was unstoppable until the finishing line.
When Bolt saw his time and that he had shattered the world record once again, Bolt pointed at the display, then stuck his tongue out. After the race he commented “I can definitely say I didn’t expect that because I was a little bit tired. I said ‘Let’s try because people are really looking out for this’. I said ‘It won’t hurt to try’. So I tried really hard and now I’m really tired.”
Bolt is track’s biggest superstar, and he’s showing no signs of slowing down. “He’s a gift to this earth,” said American sprinter Shawn Crawford, who finished fourth. “He’s a blessing to the track game. … I’m just waiting for the lights to flash ‘game over,’ ’cause I felt like I was in a video game.”
Bolt can now add another gold medal to his collection and collect the $ 100,000 world record bonus, the same amount he earned for winning the 100 m earlier this week.
Here are the full 200-meter final results:
1. Usain Bolt 19.19
2. Alonso Edward 19.81
3. Wallace Spearmon 19.85
4. Shawn Crawford 19.89
5. Steve Mullings 19.98
6. Charles Clark 20.39
7. Ramil Guliyev 20.61
8. David Alerte 20.68

He did not make the make the mistake of skidding out of the blocks this time and had a noticeable lead after only 20 meters.
This time Bolt celebrated his victory after the race and instead concentrated on his running, breaking yet another world record. Just before crossing the finish line Bolt checked on Gay once and then on the clock leaving his face in a big smile after seeing his finishing time of 9.58 seconds.

Nevertheless Tyson Gray broke the American record of 9.77 lowering it to a time of 9.71 seconds while Dwain Chambers enjoyed a season’s best, coming sixth in a time of 10.00sec. Asafa Powell finished third in 9.84.
Even though Gay was miles behind Bolt and seemed to be jogging compared to Bolt he was happy to say: “I ran the best I could. I just wanted to give my best tonight, it wasn’t enough but I’m happy to have the national record”
To celebrate the victory Bolt and Powell grabbed a flag and did a victory lap which took 20 min. They stopped on the track and did a little dance number together and posed for pictures.

Athletissima meeting in Lausanne, Usain Bolt 200m winner
Only nine days after the Olympic Games where the 22-year-old Jamaican, set world records in winning the 100m, 200m and 4×100m relay, he was back in action. Usain Bolt showed that he was still in superb shape as he ran the second fastest time this year at the Athletissima meeting in Lausanne 2nd September 2008 , clocking 19.63 (-0.9) in the 200m.
Usain Bolt flew out of the blocks and had a huge lead over the trailing pack after the first 140 meters of the race, and not surprisingly started to slow down, With only 30-20 meters to go, he slowed down to what was a jog for him, and crossed the finish line. He still finished five metres or 0.61 seconds in front of closest rival Churandy Martina.
As soon as he finished the race he immediately started to celebrate his victory by slamming his pals, posing and signing autographs.
After the race Usain Bolt told the reporters “It was a good time, but I’ve made history now so a lot of people are looking to me for big times and great things.” He also explained why he slowed down remarbly at the end of the race “I’m always going out to do my best but it’s been a long season and I trailed off tonight because I want to stay injury-free right the way to the season end. As I’m starting to get a cold I was not able to think about any faster time. My coach told me that I should make sure to end the season healthy”
He had more than today’s race to celebrate as he finished his 200m season undefeated, with a world record, Olympic gold and all together 6 sub 20 times.
