Bolt’s personal best in 100 meters was before the Jamacia Invitational 10.03, however after the race he improved his personal best to 9.76 seconds with the help of a tail wind of 1.8 m/s. His time was the second fastest performance in the history and Bolt surprised a lot of people. During the same month, 31 May, Bolt ran a new 100 meter world record at the Reebok Grand Prix in New York. With a wind tail of 1.7 m/s he broke Powell’s record.

Bolt broke the national record for the second time with a 19.67 seconds in Athens. During the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games in August Bolt broke both the 100 and 200 meter record! He ran the 100 meter race in a stunning 9.69 seconds and broke the 12 year old record. At the age of 21 and became the fastest sprinter in the world. He finished the 200 meter race in the amazing time of 19.30 seconds. The Jamaican relay team including Bolt, set the 4×100 metres world and Olympic records at the 2008 Olympics with a time of 37.10 seconds.
