16th August 2009, IAAF World Championships in Berlin
It’s not hard to see and understand why Usain Bolt is s loved by the crowd. He loves to entertain and put on a show, the track is his stage. Before positioning himself in the blocks he gave he spectators a wave and did his famous bow-and-arrow pose which drew big applause.
Usain Bolt has once again shattered the 100m world record with a stunning time of 9.58 seconds in the of the World Athletics Championship in Berlin. Bolt broke his own world record by 0.11 seconds which he set last year at the Beijing Olympics leaving the crowd in Berlin’s Olympic Stadium wild.
Bolt quickly tuned the race into a one-man show when leaving his main rivals Tyson Gray and Asafa Powell behind when fast as lightning leaving the blocks and striding towards the finish line. He did not make the make the mistake of skidding out of the blocks this time and had a noticeable lead after only 20 meters.
This time Bolt celebrated his victory after the race and instead concentrated on his running, breaking yet another world record. Just before crossing the finish line Bolt checked on Gay once and then on the clock leaving his face in a big smile after seeing his finishing time of 9.58 seconds.
After the race Bolt said “”I came out here to do my best and I did what I had to do. There’ll be no partying for me ahead of Tuesday. I’ll rest up as always, I need to rest up for the 200m.”
Nevertheless Tyson Gray broke the American record of 9.77 lowering it to a time of 9.71 seconds while Dwain Chambers enjoyed a season’s best, coming sixth in a time of 10.00sec. Asafa Powell finished third in 9.84.
Even though Gay was miles behind Bolt and seemed to be jogging compared to Bolt he was happy to say: “I ran the best I could. I just wanted to give my best tonight, it wasn’t enough but I’m happy to have the national record”
To celebrate the victory Bolt and Powell grabbed a flag and did a victory lap which took 20 min. They stopped on the track and did a little dance number together and posed for pictures.
