Athletissima meeting in Lausanne, Usain Bolt 200m winner
Only nine days after the Olympic Games where the 22-year-old Jamaican, set world records in winning the 100m, 200m and 4×100m relay, he was back in action. Usain Bolt showed that he was still in superb shape as he ran the second fastest time this year at the Athletissima meeting in Lausanne 2nd September 2008 , clocking 19.63 (-0.9) in the 200m.
Usain Bolt flew out of the blocks and had a huge lead over the trailing pack after the first 140 meters of the race, and not surprisingly started to slow down, With only 30-20 meters to go, he slowed down to what was a jog for him, and crossed the finish line. He still finished five metres or 0.61 seconds in front of closest rival Churandy Martina.
As soon as he finished the race he immediately started to celebrate his victory by slamming his pals, posing and signing autographs.
After the race Usain Bolt told the reporters “It was a good time, but I’ve made history now so a lot of people are looking to me for big times and great things.” He also explained why he slowed down remarbly at the end of the race “I’m always going out to do my best but it’s been a long season and I trailed off tonight because I want to stay injury-free right the way to the season end. As I’m starting to get a cold I was not able to think about any faster time. My coach told me that I should make sure to end the season healthy”
He had more than today’s race to celebrate as he finished his 200m season undefeated, with a world record, Olympic gold and all together 6 sub 20 times.
