Usain Bolt smashed the World Record

Usain Bolt set a new world record while winning the finals at the Olympic 100 meters title in Bejing with the amazing time of 9.69 seconds while Richard Thompson (Trinidad and Tobago) clocked 9.89 seconds and Walter Dix (U.S.A) ran 9.91 seconds. His fellow countryman and biggest rival Asafa Powell, was voted to be second winner but placed a disappointing 5th position.

Usain Bolt did not only win the race and setting a new world record, it was also how he did it. He skidded out from the blocks, and still outran all his competitors in only 41 strides with a untied shoelace on the left shoe. Bolt was the man who for the first time in history of track and field being the first

person sprint under 9.7 seconds. Being 21 years old and already 196 cm it is easy to understand how after a couple of steps he was already in the front.

Some would call Bolt’s attitude arrogant and others simply happy as Bolt took out triumph 10 meters before crossing the line by opening his arms wide open before pounding his chest in victory. At the end of the race Bolt did not even seem to be running maximum effort and one might wonder, what time he would have run if he would have given his maximum effort until the end.

Bolt however did not expect to break the world record but entered the competition to win as he said the following to BBC Sport:

“I felt the world record might go as it’s a new track and very quick,I came here just to win and I did just that. I didn’t even know I’d broken the world record until I did my victory lap. Now I’m just concentrating on my two races coming up. I came here prepared and I’m going to try and do it the (100 and 200m double).”

Bolt’s has specialized in the 200 meters, and he will be the number one favorite to win that one next week,
